Badrinath chief priest Kesavan Namboodiri arrested for sexual molestation

Sent to judicial custody for 14 days by Saket court.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident of sexual molestation of a married woman, the chief priest of Badrinath temple, Keshavan Namboodiri, has been arrested and sent to 14 days judicial custody on Tuesday. The victim knew the priest and was invited over by him in a hotel where he attempted to sexually molest her. 
She was in touch with her husband over the phone as she was suspicious of him. Since, the victim was pregnant, he offered her to hold her arm and support her but she refused. He then took her to his room inside which a teenager was sitting whom he told to move out. Inside, the room, there were cigarette stubs and liquor all around. He then closed the door and asked the woman to bring a glass of water for him. When she brought water, he started molesting her. The victim screamed and ran out of the room.

By that time, since the woman was in constant touch with her husband, he immediately rang up the driver and told him to take his wife home. The victim reached home and told everything about the incident to her husband.

The victim’s father has been going to Badrinath shrine since 1993 as he wanted to build a hotel there in 2002. "Mehrauli police went to his room, took photographs, and took the priest to AIIMS for breathlyser test. Even at AIIMS at 4:30 in the morning, he was unable to stand properly", said the victim's father. 
Meanwhile, the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee has suspended the chief priest Keshavan Namboodiri till the time he is cleared of the molestation charge in court. "He has been removed from the post of chief priest (mukhya rawal)", a Committee official said. The chief priest Keshavan Namboodiri and his associate Vishnu Pradhan have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days by Saket court.


Keshavan Namboodiri has a state level licensed gun permit, and he had applied for national level permit, Uttarakhand police said.
